Mothers- Possessive behavior of In-laws & Conflicts
Possessive behavior of In-laws & Conflicts.
Anu 32 yr old came to me for counseling, with a fame of mind to get Divorce. She was not able to bear her married life anymore. She had a 3yr old daughter and anu was living in a joint family.During the counseling session she had revealed her problem.Anu was completely fed up with her mother in law who was over possessive for Anu’s husband . Her mother-in-law has complete control and interfearence in Anu’s and her husband life. Her husband was himself a MUMMA:S BOY he newer showed any objection on his mother’s behavior and attitude towards Anu.whatever his mother was doing and saying that was completely right in his view.. Anu could not find her place between that possessive mother and son relation. Finally she decided for separation.
Anu is a one example but in our society we can find many and many Anu who are fighting for their own identity between her husband and over possessive mother in law.
Whenever I think about such kind of situation I always find that the problem lies not only in mother in law’s attitude but problem lies in three of them – mother in law ,son and his wife.
Certainly, mothers who has become mother-in-law they should change their mode of thinking towards her son .She must reduce her hold on her son and should provide more opportunity to her son and daughter in law to spend time together . Because as a mother you know your son very well but your daughter in law is new for your son so she should get more time to understand your son.
There are some important changes which should be approached by son after becoming a husband. Like balanced behavior between mother and wife. Do not try to be always mamma’s boy. Be friendly with your wife and try to involve her in your family conversation & decisions pertaining to day to day issues.
Daughter-in-laws should try to understand a mother and son relations. Have patience, give some time to them to understand you and involving you in their lives.
